45 minute timer

45:00

What a 45-minute timer is good for

How it works

Press Start and the 45-minute countdown begins; the bar and the browser tab show the time left. The timer counts to a fixed end time, so it stays accurate if you switch tabs, and an alarm sounds at zero while the numbers flash. Full screen makes the digits readable from across a room. Space starts and pauses, R resets. To share a different length, add ?t= and a number of seconds to the address: datetime.uk/timer/?t=3000 opens a 50-minute timer.

Set other lengths on the online timer. For exam timetables, see exam dates.

Frequently asked questions

Which GCSE exams last 45 minutes?

One example is AQA GCSE French: the Foundation reading paper is 45 minutes and the Higher listening paper is about 45 minutes. Lengths vary by subject and board, so check your exam board's specification.

Will the timer keep going if I switch tabs?

Yes. It counts to a fixed end time and the alarm is scheduled in advance, so it stays accurate in a background tab. Closing the tab stops it.

Will my laptop go to sleep during the timer?

In supported browsers, the screen stays awake while the timer runs. If your device sleeps anyway, the countdown is still correct when you wake it, but the alarm may not sound until then.
