2 hour timer
What a 2-hour timer is good for
- A-level papers. Each of the three AQA A-level Maths papers lasts 2 hours. Sitting a full past paper against the clock is the closest thing to the real exam.
- A study session. Four 25-minute Pomodoros with three 5-minute breaks take 115 minutes, so two hours covers a full cycle. The Pomodoro timer switches between them for you.
- Parking. Many car parks have a 2-hour maximum stay. Start the timer when you park.
- Screen time. Agree a two-hour limit for a gaming session and let the alarm, not an argument, end it.
- Slow cooking. A reminder for a slow-roast or a braise that needs checking after two hours.
- Booked slots. Village halls, soft play and party rooms are often hired in two-hour blocks. Start the timer when guests arrive so you leave time to pack up.
How it works
Press Start and the 2-hour countdown begins; the bar and the browser tab show the time left. The timer counts to a fixed end time, so it stays accurate if you switch tabs, and an alarm sounds at zero while the numbers flash. Full screen makes the digits readable from across a room. Space starts and pauses, R resets. To share a different length, add ?t= and a number of seconds to the address: datetime.uk/timer/?t=9000 opens a 2 hour 30 minute timer.
For other lengths, use the online timer. To find out when your exams are, see exam dates.
Frequently asked questions
How long are A-level exams?
It varies by subject and board. With AQA, each of the three A-level Maths papers is 2 hours. Check your exam board's specification for other subjects.
Will the timer keep going if I switch tabs?
Yes. It counts to a fixed end time and the alarm is scheduled in advance, so it stays accurate in a background tab. Closing the tab or the browser stops it.
Can I set a timer longer than 2 hours?
Yes. Change the hours box before you press Start. The longest timer is 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds.
