Age calculator
Enter a date of birth
Your exact age appears here. It is worked out in your browser: nothing is stored or sent.
How to use it
- Enter the date of birth. On most phones you can type the year straight into the box rather than scrolling.
- Leave Age on blank to get the age today (UK date), or pick another date, such as the start of a school year or the closing date of an application.
- Read the exact age in years, months and days, the totals, the weekday of birth and the next birthday.
How the age is worked out
The calculator counts whole years first, then whole months, then the days left over. A month is counted when the same day of the month comes round again; if that day doesn't exist (31 April, for example), the month's last day is used.
Worked example: someone born on Saturday 19 May 1990 is, on Thursday 1 October 2026:
- 36 years to 19 May 2026, then 4 months to 19 September, then 12 days to 1 October: 36 years, 4 months, 12 days.
- 13,284 days in total, which is 1,897 weeks and 5 days, or about 318,816 hours.
- Their next birthday is Wednesday 19 May 2027, when they turn 37.
Total days include every 29 February in between. Hours are approximate, because the time of birth and clock changes aren't taken into account. To count the days between any two dates, use days between dates.
What each result means
- Years, months and days: the age as most forms ask for it, counted to the "age on" date.
- Months in total: useful for babies and toddlers, whose age is often given in months.
- Days and weeks: every calendar day since birth, not counting the birth date itself, so someone born yesterday is 1 day old.
- Weekday of birth: the day of the week you were born, from the same calendar the UK uses today.
- Next birthday: the date, its weekday, how many days away it is, and the age you will turn.
Birthdays on 29 February
A leap-day birthday only comes round every four years (see leap years; the next 29 February is in 2028). In other years, the calculator treats 28 February as the birthday, so someone born on 29 February 2024 turns 1 on 28 February 2025. It also shows the 1 March date, because some people celebrate then and some organisations use it. If a legal age matters, such as for a licence or a benefit, check the rule the organisation uses.
Your privacy
The date of birth never leaves your device. The calculator runs in your browser, saves nothing and sends nothing.

Frequently asked questions
How do I work out my exact age?
Count the whole years since your last birthday, then the whole months since that day of the month last came round, then the remaining days. The calculator does this for you and also gives the total days and weeks.
How many days old am I?
Enter your date of birth and leave the second date blank. The result shows the total days, including leap days, and the same figure in weeks and days.
When does someone born on 29 February have a birthday?
In leap years, on 29 February. In other years, this calculator uses 28 February and also shows 1 March, as people and organisations use either date.
Can I find someone's age on a past or future date?
Yes. Enter a date in the Age on box, for example 31 August for school-year cut-offs, and the age is worked out for that day.
Is my date of birth saved?
No. The calculation happens in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent to a server.
